Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138/ruled 1107–1138). Romanesque coin, ca. 1125–1138, Kraków, Poland. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon (fight between good and evil; fight against pagans; martyrs; Adalbert referenced). Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (two with a central dot each); between its arms one ball (three with a central dot each). Iconography: knight, dragon, spear/spearhead, equal-armed cross, crosses, chain mail, mouths. Coin; diameter 11.5–12.1 mm; weight 0.35 g.
