denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086-1138; reign 1107-1138), Romanesque, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków; coin (denarius), diameter 11.8–12.2 mm, weight 0.37 g. Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; above the knight's left foot, a dot. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, one ball. Iconography: knight, chain mail, spear/spearhead, dragon, jaws, equal-armed cross, crosses, martyrs, fight against pagans, fight between good and evil; depiction associated with Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997).
