Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; three balls between its arms; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical imagery: knights, dragons, fight between good and evil; motifs include chainmail, spearhead, spears, equal-armed cross, crosses, mouths, martyrs, knight, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), Romanesque style. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Kraków, Poland. Coin: denarius; diameter approx. 12.1–12.6 mm; weight 0.35 g.
