Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1107–1138). Obverse: within a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: within a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with spheres (one with a dot); between its arms, a sphere (one with a dot). Allegorical Romanesque imagery: knight, dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; references to Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997). Issue mark: spearhead; motifs include equal-armed cross, chain mail, crosses, spears, mouths. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.8–13.2 mm; weight 0.52 g.
