Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Romanesque, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius), diameter 12.7 mm, weight 0.41 g. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; iconography includes spearhead, chain mail, jaws, knight, dragon, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, martyrs, Adalbert (St. ca. 956–997). Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot); at the intersection of the arms a ball, between them a sun; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length.
