Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Romanesque style; ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Silver coin, diameter 12.1–12.3 mm, weight 0.31 g. Obverse: in beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms one ball and a dot in one quarter near the center. Iconography: knight, chain mail, spear, dragons/dragon jaws, equal-armed cross; themes of knights, martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; references to Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997).
