Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms, a ball; between the arms, one sun. Iconography includes allegories, equal-armed cross, chain mail, spearhead (issue mark), crosses, mouth, knight, martyrs, dragons, Romanesque style; themes: fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; associated figure: Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Object: coin (denarius). Diameter: 11.4–12.2 mm. Weight: 0.21 g.
