Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138 / ruled 1107–1138). Av.: In a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a ball beneath the knight's right elbow. Rv.: In a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; a single sun between its arms. Allegorical Romanesque imagery evoking knights, dragons, martyrs, the fight between good and evil and against pagans; motifs include equal-armed cross, crosses, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, mouths. References St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997). c. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.6–13.1 mm, weight 0.35 g.
