Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; reign 1107–1138). Obverse: within a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: within a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (three with a central dot; the fourth area poorly struck), between the arms a sun (two with a central dot; remaining areas poorly struck). Romanesque style; themes: dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, martyrs, Saint Adalbert. Issued ca. 1125–1138, Kraków, Poland. Coin (denarius), diameter 12.9–13.1 mm, weight 0.61 g.
