Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, a sun. Issue mark: spearhead. Motifs: equal-armed cross, chain mail, knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, spears, martyrs; possible reference to St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997) and the medieval fight against pagans. Coin; Poland, Kraków; diameter ~13.1–13.3 mm; weight 0.58 g; Romanesque style.
