Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138). Romanesque silver coin, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Diameter 11.9–12.6 mm, weight 0.62 g. Obverse (in beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon (iconography: knight, chain mail, spear/spearhead, jaws, dragon; themes: fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; possible reference to St. Adalbert). Reverse (in triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms one small ball near the center and one sun near the ends (iconography: equal-armed cross, crosses, sun). State of preservation: very good.
