Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Av.: In the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a sun under the knight's right elbow. Rv.: In the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms, a ball; between the arms, one ball (with a dot on each); one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical imagery referencing martyrs, knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), spears, fight against pagans. Romanesque style. c. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin. Diameter 12.1–12.6 mm. Weight 0.35 g.
