Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting the tip of a spear into the mouth of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (three of them with one dot each; the fourth is effaced). Between its arms, one ball (three with one dot each; the fourth effaced). One arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Romanesque style; iconography includes equal-armed cross, chain mail, spearhead/ spears, mouths, martyrs, knight, dragon, fight between good and evil, St. Wojciech, fight against pagans. Coin; Poland, Kraków. Diameter 13.0–13.5 mm; weight 0.48 g.
