Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1125–1138). Obverse (in a beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (in a triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, two quarters with two radiating balls each (smaller ones nearer the center, larger ones farther), and the other two quarters with one ball each (one ball dotted). Iconography: equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), crosses, chain mail, mouth, martyrs, knight, dragons/dragon, mouths; Romanesque style; themes include fight against pagans and fight between good and evil; association with St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius). Diameter: 12.0–12.4 mm. Weight: 0.30 g.
