Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138). Romanesque coin, ca. 1125–1138, Kraków, Poland. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon (knight, chain mail, dragon, jaws, spears, fight between good and evil, Adalbert/saintly/martyral associations). Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles (equal-armed) cross topped with balls, with a ball between its arms. Denomination: denarius. Diameter 13.1–13.4 mm; weight 0.53 g. Romanesque style; iconography includes allegory, knight, dragons, martyrs.
