Denarius of Commodus (reigned 177–192). Obverse: Head of Commodus in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription M ANT PF - EL AV, BRIT PP. Reverse: Apollo stands frontally, head turned right; left hand holds a lyre leaning against a column, right hand holds a plectrum, inscription APOL PAL PM - TR P - XV or XVI COS VI. Date: 190–191. Materials/format: Roman silver coin (denarius), diameter ~16.5–17.0 mm, weight 2.06 g, axis 180°. Subjects/iconography: Commodus; Apollo; columns; lyres; plectrums.
