Pocket sundial with compass, Butterfield, Michael (1635–1724). Octagonal, engraved on both sides, with names of French and European cities and their longitudes inscribed on the underside. Signed: Butterfield / Paris. On the underside: a decharge mark for very small items of the lessee Étienne Ridereau (lily flower in a rhombus) struck from 29 VII 1684 to 1 X 1687. Date: 1684–1687. Place: Paris, France. Measuring instrument; height 11.2 cm, width 8.2 cm.
