Saint Teresa of Avila; artist probably Jan Maszewski (Masieski, fl. ca. 1750–1800), graphic artist; design attributed also to Dominik Witke-Jezewski (1862–1944). Subject: Teresa of Avila (saint; 1515–1582) — saint in half-length on a cloud, with a martyr's palm (on the left), rocaille ornament behind the saint; flowers falling on the cloud. Signature under the image of Saint Casimir: IMVS (expanded: Ian Masieski Vilnesis Sculpsit). Masieski also signed with monograms such as IM V. sc., IMS, and IM; he may have worked in Vilnius. All matrices were created with a stylus; faces and the head of Christ are stippled. Compositions use characteristic rocaille ornament in frames, cartouches, and bases. Individual plates are numbered — possibly illustrations for a book. Maszewski created a frontispiece in 1767, so he could have produced illustrations for a book with lives of the saints.
