The background and much of the figure show crosshatched and scratched textures, with areas of smooth engraving on the face and collar; the plate surface exhibits spots, blotches, and patches of oxidation giving mottled patterns. Visible colors include coppery brown, dark gray, black, and lighter silvery gray highlights, with the framed edge appearing slightly warmer in tone. The composition is centered vertically and horizontally on the plate, and the overall appearance is aged and worn.
