Engraving made in the stippled etching technique — drawing with the sharp tip of a needle on the varnish covering a copper plate (the punctures reach the surface of the plate) then the etching matrix; a few etching lines visible in the hair of both figures. Etched inscription. 1st quarter of the 19th century. Graphic matrix/plate. Height 16 cm, width 15.6 cm., A square metal plate with a mottled surface in shades of brown, rust, copper, and tan shows a faint, worn engraved scene of a woman and child; the figures are composed of fine dotted lines and sit within the plate's bordered area, with the woman's head visible above the child's and the child's head and torso in front; the plate's edges display slightly darker copper tones and some greenish oxidation, and a narrow frame of slightly different copper hues surrounds the central mottled field.
