S. Jeronims. (Saint Jerome). Czerski, Stanislaw (1777–1833), graphic artist. Jerome (Saint; ca. 340–ca. 420), saints, hermits, crucifixes, devotional depiction, lion (attribute), religious painting. The image depicts Saint Jerome. The composition is enclosed in an oval in a double linear frame. The engraving was made by Father Stanislaw Czerski in Salanty in Samogitia. As a parish priest, with the help of a young assistant he adopted, he devoted himself to engraving images of saints with Samogitian inscriptions: because he only engraved these images for his parishioners, who, as inhabitants of pure Samogitia, did not know any other language. The plates, together with the press and all the tools for imprinting them, were transferred to Vilnius after his death. Date: 1822–1832. Medium: graphic, graphic matrix, graphic plate. Dimensions: height 10 cm, width 6.7 cm.
