Ah! mana pyninga. (The Miser and Death), Czerski, Stanislaw (1777–1833), graphic artist; moralizing scene showing a rich man with chests, coins, scales, keys, and Death (personification). The image depicts a scene from a moralizing parable. The engraving was made by Father Stanislaw Czerski in Salanty in Samogitia. As a parish priest, with the help of a young assistant he adopted, he devoted himself to engraving images of saints with Samogitian inscriptions: because he only engraved these images for his parishioners, who, as inhabitants of pure Samogitia, do not know any other language. The above-mentioned plates, together with the press and all the tools for imprinting them, were transferred to Vilnius after his death. Date: 1822–1832. Medium: graphic; graphic matrix/graphic plate. Dimensions: height 6.7 cm, width 9.6 cm.
