True image of St. Thaddeus. Engraving depicting the miraculous image of St. Thaddeus the Apostle from the Dominican church in Minsk. Jude Thaddeus, one of the twelve apostles, Catholic and Orthodox saint, martyr, from Cana of Galilee. Iconography: depicted with a club or spear (he was killed with clubs), often in a red robe or a brown and black cloak with an image of Jesus (the Mandylion). Attributes: stones, a cross, a book, a staff, a fishing boat, a club, a sword, clubs, and an axe. The figure en pied in a pleated robe. Composition enclosed in a frame decorated with a pearl ornament interrupted by ovals; at the bottom a rectangular cartouche closed with simplified acanthus leaves. Inscription at the bottom: 'The true image of St. Thaddeus the Apostle, famous for his graces in the church of the 20th DD. Minski.' Part of a series of graphic compositions depicting images that are objects of cult. Engraved by Franciszek Balcewicz for the Franciscan publishing house in Vilnius. Date: 1790–1820, Vilnius.
