Drachma of Kavadh I (ruler of Persia; 488–496 and 498–531). Obverse: bust of Kavadh I facing right wearing a crown topped by a crescent enclosing a globe (representation of the universe), a crescent in front of the helmet, ribbons flowing from the helmet to right and left, stars on both sides of the helmet; short curly beard, curly hair tied back, earring, beads and a long chain around his neck, ribbons flowing from behind the shoulders, crescents on both sides of the bust; three crescents with a star in the center in the outer rim. Pahlavi inscription. Reverse: burning altar; to its left the ruler/Arsaces standing facing forward with a sword, to the right a priest standing facing forward holding a sword; star at upper left, crescent at upper right, signs/monograms on both sides; pearl rim. Pahlavi inscription. Date: 488–497, 499–531. Persia. Coin; weight 3.77 g.
