Drachma of Kavadh I (ruler of Persia; 488–496 and 498–531). Obverse: bust of Kavadh I facing right; wearing a crown with ribbons and a crescent with korymbos on the crown, a crescent in front of the crown, stars on both sides of the crown; short curly beard, curly hair tied back, earring, beads and long chain around the neck, ribbons flowing from behind the shoulders, crescents on both sides of the bust; outside the rim three crescents with a star in the center. Pahlavi legend. Reverse: fire altar; to its left the ruler stands facing forward with a sword in his hand, to the right a priest stands facing forward holding a sword; star at top left, crescent at top right, signs/monograms on both sides; pearl rim. Dates: 488–497, 499–531. Persia (Sassanid), Sassanid art. Coin: diameter 28.0 mm, weight 4.09 g.
