Red-figure pelike depicting a woman putting on a pearl necklace; Southern Italic (Apulian) pottery, reddish-yellow clay, c. 380 BC. Pelike with a bulging belly, thick disc-shaped foot, ribbon-like handles; edge and underside of foot left the natural clay color. Neck decorated with a band of straight and inverted palmettes inscribed in a zigzag; below the belly scene a meander interrupted by horizontally filled rectangles. A: a woman seated on a klismos holding a necklace, wearing a finely pleated chiton, a cloak wrapped around her hips and knees, and a diadem; to her right a girl stands leaning against a small column; behind her a naked youth stands with a cloak over his left arm, holding a small disc or sphere in his right hand. B: two youths in cloaks flank a stele with a base seen in perspective, a wreath above the stele. Vessel type: pelike; height 29.3 cm, width 21.5 cm.
