Red-figure hydria, Amycus Painter (c. 420–410 BC), Greek pottery; hydria on a high profiled foot, weight 2.056 kg, Lucania; red-figure decoration. The belly widens evenly toward broad, slightly sloping shoulders and a neck terminating in a wide profiled rim. The neck is decorated with an ovoid at the base and a band of leaves above; the ovoid also surrounds the edge of the rim. The figurative scene on the belly and shoulders, above a meander band, shows a naked youth seated on a rock at the center. A male figure in profile turns back, leaning on a rock with his right hand, left hand on his left knee; the youth is slender with defined musculature. The ephebe is flanked by two women in lavish robes: the woman to his left holds a mirror reflecting the youth; the woman on the opposite side holds a long branch topped with leaves in her right hand. Dating: 420–400 BC (previously dated 420–410 BC).
