I:\nmw crop ready cleaned\Notes about the artist: Louis Marin Bonnet, French engraver and pastelist, student of Jean-Charles François and Gilles Demarteau, developed and expanded the crayon (maniére de crayon) technique and the maniére du pastel; published Le Pastel en gravure (1769) and a printed catalogue of his engravings; worked in St. Petersburg 1765–1768 creating portraits including Catherine II. The engraving reproduces a drawing by Edmé Bouchardon, noted for clear, precise draughtsmanship and academic sanguine studies often used by engravers in the maniére de crayon.
