Frontispiece by Frederik de Wit ca. 1630–1706, young, engraved by Jeremias Falck ca. 1609–1677. Illustration for Falck, Florum Icones, 1662: floral wreaths and decoration patterns; pattern book/album of botanical motifs and frontispieces. Dutch and Polish/French graphic influences; after 1662. Produced in Hamburg; published in Amsterdam. Album; height 21.0 cm, width 15.1 cm., A vertical aged paper page with a dark ink botanical wreath framing the center, showing a group of intricately engraved flowers and leaves arranged around an empty central area; the floral elements include several large multi-petaled blooms, some elongated tulip-like blossoms, and a few smaller rounded flowers, all rendered with fine hatching and shading. The ink work is dark brown to black against a beige to tan background that shows small spots and uneven discoloration. Leaves of various shapes—long narrow ones and broader veined ones—intertwine with stems and buds, creating a balanced symmetrical oval composition.
