Subject: baton of Jan III Sobieski King of Poland, 1629–1696 — iconography of military/weapon, 17th century, artistic craft; medium: drawing on paper glued across its entire surface onto a cardboard of similar dimensions, which is glued with its upper edge onto another cardboard. Date of drawing: 1830–1884. Dimensions: drawing card height 22.3 cm, width 5.1 cm; cardboard height 35.9 cm, width 25.8 cm., A tall ornamental staff with a long slender shaft in gold tones featuring repeating decorative patterns, topped by a bulbous round head that has a silver-gray swirled surface studded with a few small jewel-like accents in green and red and set within golden mounts, the base of the head and the lower end of the shaft showing small green and red circular decorations; the background is a pale off-white with a thin darker border around the edges.
