Three swords from the Hallstatt excavations. Drawing glued with the upper edge to brown cardboard. 1876. Drawing: height 18.8 cm, width 12.8 cm; cardboard: height 35.6 cm, width 25.8 cm., The image shows a drawing of three vertically oriented swords or daggers on a light beige background; the left and center blades and fittings are rendered in shades of yellow and gold with touches of greenish olive, while the right blade is painted in muted grays and bluish-gray tones. The left weapon has a curved two-pronged guard and a ridged handle above a long, slightly tapered blade in golden-yellow with subtle darker shading; the central piece features an ornate keyhole-shaped pommel, a decorative hilt with raised dots and banding, and a long tapered scabbard or blade in warm gold and olive hues with a small ornamental finial at the tip; the right weapon has a simple straight handle with a small curved guard and a dark gray, narrow double-edged blade displaying variations of gray and blue wash. The paper shows a narrow brown border at the top and bottom edges and faint pencil lines and marks around the drawn objects.
