12th-century helmet — side and general views. A matt iron helmet with a flat nasal, quite high, dated circa 1150s. Pen-and-ink and wash drawing on paper, glued onto cardboard upper edge attached to a larger brown-toned cardboard. Drawing: 10.6 × 10.3 cm; overall cardboard: 34.7 × 25.1 cm. Made between 1851–1884 by Aleksander Lesser 1814–1884., The image shows a drawing of a helmet-like object rendered twice, once larger on the left and once smaller on the right, both with rounded tops and a front opening edged with riveted plates; the objects are depicted in shades of gray and brown with darker gray interior shadows and black outlines, set against a beige paper background with lighter cream and tan areas, and a faint brown border around the whole composition.
