Behind and above her are a few ghostly, humanlike figures with expressive faces and flowing hair or drapery, reaching toward the central figure. On the left, a large tree trunk rises with a perched small figure high in the branches, and a dog or hound stands at the tree’s base looking toward the central figure. On the ground near the foreground there is grass, scattered foliage, and a low tree stump. Ornamental carved details frame the upper corners of the composition in a warmer brown tone contrasting with the overall gray. The lighting creates strong highlights and deep shadows across clothing, tree bark, and the figures’ faces, emphasizing folds and textures throughout the forest setting.
