Pastel drawing depicting a monumental bust of a farmer/peasant rendered with strong, sculptural modeling and wide colorful surfaces; figure drawn with a strong line and outlines achieved with crayons black and ultramarine using the sharp end of the stick. Fields filled with pastels applied along the side of the sticks, sliding across the cardboard’s texture. Background shows a checkerboard pattern rendered with lines and undefined background between rectangles. The dark beige cardboard ground is integral to the color composition, with visible ground unifying the palette and serving as a tool for building planes., A framed portrait of an older man shown from the chest up wearing a cap and coat, rendered in pastel-like strokes. The man has a serious facial expression with a mustache and visible facial lines; his skin shows brown and tan tones. His cap and coat are mainly blue with darker blue shading, and his shirt collar shows muted pink and light blue stripes. The background contains a pale bluish sky above a landscape of rectangular fields in shades of yellow and green. The frame surrounding the image is a warm wood color.
