Two standing figures in simple clothing and hats are near the gate, one wearing a red top and light blue skirt and the other in a pale garment with darker trousers, each holding long poles. The fence and ground are rendered in muted browns and grays, the horses display shades of tan, brown, white, and gray, and the clothing includes red, pale blue, white, dark gray, and blue tones. In the distant background there are faint pale blue and gray shapes suggesting structures and a light, washed sky in soft beige and gray.
