Sestertius of Antoninus Pius 86–161; Roman emperor 138–161. Obverse: head of Antoninus Pius in a laurel wreath to the right; inscription IMP T AEL CAES HADR ANTO - NINVS AVG PIVS PP. Reverse: Fides standing frontally, head turned right; in outstretched left hand a bowl of fruit, in lowered right hand ears of corn; inscription P MTRP - OT COSII, in SC fields. Date: 139. Place of origin: Rome, Roman Empire. Coin; diameter 31.5–32.0 mm, weight 27.27 g, axis 165°., A round, worn coin with a dark brown surface and patches of reddish and greenish discoloration shows a faint raised figure of a standing person in the center holding an object in each hand; the figure is slightly lighter in tone than the surrounding metal. The coin edge is irregular and darker, with areas of rough texture and mottled spots of black and pinkish-red. The background around the figure has uneven dark brown and black areas with scattered small splotches of reddish and green. The overall appearance is aged and corroded with a mix of brown, dark brown, black, reddish, pinkish, and green colors.
