Sestertius, Alexander Severus 208–235; Roman emperor 222–235. Obverse: Bust of Alexander Severus in laurel wreath, armor and paludamentum facing right; inscription IMPCMAVRSEVALEXANDAVG. Reverse: SALVS PVBLICA, in exergue SC. Salus sits facing left; in his right hand he holds a patera from which he feeds a snake wrapped around the altar, his left hand rests on the backrest. Pearl borders. 231–235 CE. Rome. Coin; diameter ~29–30 mm; weight 14.86 g., A worn round coin with an irregular edge and a missing chunk showing rough texture and pitting across its surface; the coin displays the faint profile of a person's head in low relief at the center, with subtle contour lines suggesting hair and facial shape; the surface shows mottled colors including dark brown, black, and hints of lighter brown and greenish patina; overall the coin appears aged with uneven shading and areas of smoother wear contrasting with rough corroded patches.
