Denarius, Alexander Severus Roman emperor, 222–235 — iconography: Salus personification. Obverse: Bust of Alexander Severus with laurel wreath and paludamentum facing right; pearl rim. Reverse: Salus seated facing left; in his right hand he holds a patera from which he feeds a snake coiled around the altar, his left hand rests on the backrest; pearl rim. Date: 222. Place of origin: Rome. Medium/function: coin. Diameter: 18.0–19.5 mm. Weight: 2.57 g., A round metallic object with a worn, textured surface showing an engraved seated figure on a chair; the figure appears in low relief with visible limbs and draped clothing, and there is a decorative border around the edge. The metal shows shades of silver and gray with darker gray shadows in the recessed areas and lighter silver highlights on raised surfaces. The background is plain and white.
