Denarius of Elagabalus 204–222; Roman emperor 218–222. Obverse: IVLIAMAESAAVG — Draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, pearl border. Reverse: PVDIC ITIA — Veiled Pudicitia seated on a throne facing left, raising the hem of her veil with her right hand and holding a scepter in her left, pearl border. Date: 218–223. Place of origin: Rome, Roman Empire 27 BC–476. Object: coin denarius, diameter ca. 17.0–18.5 mm, weight 1.85 g., A worn, irregularly shaped metal object with a rough, pitted surface showing a carved scene in low relief; the carving depicts a seated figure next to another standing figure with elongated, angular limbs and draped clothing, both set on a slightly raised base line. The object displays a range of muted colors including dark gray, brown, and hints of greenish and reddish tones, with lighter silvery highlights along raised edges and carved lines. The edges are uneven and chipped, and the surface shows scratches and areas of smoother wear. The background around the object is plain white.
