Set of three trays on legs kakeban, Japanese, Edo period early 19th century. Low tables, identically decorated but of different dimensions allowing them to be stacked pyramidally, one on top of the other. Each table has an almost square top framed with high slats, supported by four curved legs connected at the bottom by four slats forming a square base. The top and the inner side of the slats framing it are coated with vermilion-coloured lacquer; the remaining surface is covered with shiny black roiro-nuri lacquer and decorated with a golden ornament of pine branches and plum blossoms made using the sprinkling technique hiramaki-e, the decoration slightly raised above the background surface. Piece of furniture., A stacked set of three lacquered trays with open curved frames, each tray showing a red flat surface bordered by black edges; the frames are black with gold floral and leaf decoration, and the overall piece sits against a light gray background with visible shadows.
