Vase, Japanese, Meiji 1868–1912, ceramics, vessel, vases, cranes iconography, 19th/20th century, Japan; height 9 cm, diameter 3.5 cm., The image shows a small sculpted bird-like object resting on a reflective surface against a muted gray background. The object has a predominantly white body with textured feather-like details and a curved beak-like structure that forms a loop; the interior of the loop appears dark, almost black. There are areas of yellow on the upper beak and near the head, a pinkish-red patch on the crown, and mottled brown and black discoloration along parts of the beak and body. The far end of the object has darker markings in black and brown, and the reflection of the object is visible on the surface below.
