Dyeing stencil katagami with a motif of stylized chrysanthemums and plant tendrils kawari kiku ni karakusa moyô, Meiji 1868–1912, ise-katagami stencil, chuban format, floral ornaments, chrysanthemums, karakusa pattern, 19th/20th century Meiji period, Japan; height 41.3 cm, width 25.0 cm., A rectangular sheet with a dark brown background and white cutaway areas forming a decorative floral design, including a group of three large round flower shapes with radiating petal-like spokes and central oval forms, connected by a network of curving, segmented vine-like bands and several stylized leaf shapes; the white shapes create high contrast against the brown and the sheet shows slight edge wear and a few small scuffs.
