Vase, 19th century, India. Vase with a bulging, flattened belly tapering toward the bottom; wide spout and round foot. Polychrome in red, pink, yellow, white and black; decorated with jugs, gods Vishnu, Shiva, teachers, fish, plant and geometric ornaments, and figures associated with Hinduism Vaishnavism, Shaivism and ascetics. Vessel; height 50.0 cm, diameter 13.0 cm, weight 5.75 kg., A large ornamental vessel with a flared rim, a bulbous midsection, and a tapered base, decorated with intricate painted scenes within rounded panels and surrounded by floral motifs; the surface shows a combination of metallic bronze or brass tones with prominent red areas and touches of black and muted gold, along with small accents of pink and green; the vessel rests on a circular pedestal base and the neck and rim feature etched or engraved linear patterns and repeating leaf-like designs; the painted panels depict seated figures and groups in various poses, rendered in darker tones against the red background, and the overall finish appears glossy.
