Head of a monk Buddha?, possibly an arhat/luohan, Chinese, Ming dynasty 1368–1644, 14th–15th century, sculpture, height 11.8 cm, width 9.2 cm, depth 8.7 cm;, Chinese Buddhism iconography., A stone sculpture of a head viewed from the side, mounted on a square base; the sculpture is textured and mottled in shades of brown and gray, with subtle darker and lighter speckles, and the base is a more uniform brown. The background transitions from very dark near the top to a gradient of dark gray and lighter gray toward the bottom, and the surface beneath the base is a pale gray with soft shadowing. The head shows a rounded cranium, a carved ear, and a defined jawline, all in the same brown-gray stone color.
