Lantern, gift; Genius, Mieczyslaw 1853–1920. Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Decorated with fish, arbors, plants and garden arbors. 19th century, China. Height 35.0 cm., An ornate metal lantern-like object with a greenish-brown patina, featuring a domed, pagoda-style roof with a round finial and a decorative loop handle on top; the roof has textured, woven-patterned panels and upturned eaves with small dragon or creature head ornaments at the corners. Below the roof is a cylindrical body with openwork panels carved with scrolling floral and foliate motifs, surrounded by vertical ribs. The base is a raised platform with a low balustrade of small posts and pierced arches, standing on carved feet with curving shapes. The visible colors are green, brown, and hints of darker bronze.
