Lantern, gift; Genius, Mieczyslaw 1853–1920. Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century. Materials/decoration: fish, arbors, plant ornament, garden arbors. Height: 35.0 cm., An ornate metal object with a pagoda-like roof and a rounded finial handle sits against a plain light background; the piece shows a weathered greenish-brown patina with darker brown accents, and the roof has textured panels and upward-curving eaves ending in stylized creature heads. The body beneath the roof is an openwork cylindrical form with intricate scrolling and foliate cutouts visible through several vertical panels, and the lower section rests on a decorative base with pierced gallery-like railings, small finials, and carved bracket feet all sharing the same aged green and brown coloration.
