Hu-type vase, Chinese, ceremonial ritual vessel with handles and taotie iconography, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century, China; vessel, height 39 cm, width 27.5 cm, diameter 24.5 cm., A dark metal vase with a flared rim and a narrow neck that widens into a bulbous body, standing on a slightly flared foot; the surface shows an overall dark gray to black patina with areas of lighter gray wear and subtle brownish spots; the upper portion of the body features a band of raised ornamental patterns and a few ring handles attached on opposite sides, while the lower body has vertical panel-like decorations in low relief; the background is a smooth, pale gray.
