Candlestick shokudai, Takimoto, Iwami; craftsman; Japanese art; Japanese culture; lotuses; leaves; candlesticks; Meiji 1868–1912; unknown origin; 2nd half of the 19th century; Japan; candlestick; height 44.0 cm, A dark metallic decorative stand shaped like a stylized flower and stem sits against a pale gray background; the base resembles a scalloped leaf with visible vein-like ridges, from which a slender textured stem rises and splits into a circular ring adorned with small bud-like and leaf-like elements, and above this the stem continues upward to a bowl-shaped flower top with layered petal forms and a central pointed spike. The visible colors are dark brownish metal tones and shades of gray in the background.
