Shoulao on a deer — incense burner, sculptor unknown, Narozno Eckersdorf; deer and figurine subject; Chinese art; Chinese culture; Taoist sage Shoulao Shouxing iconography representing longevity shou; Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th century, China; sculpture; height 27.5 cm., A dark bronze sculpture showing a seated human figure riding a deer; the figure wears a tall rounded headpiece and flowing robes with carved folds, and has a long beard and mustache, while holding a small object in one hand and resting the other near the chest; the deer has slender legs, a raised head with elongated antlers, and a slightly turned face; the surface shows areas of worn golden highlights against the overall dark brown bronze; the background is a smooth gradient from light gray at the bottom to darker gray at the top.
