Vase, Japanese, Meiji–Taisho periods late 19th–early 20th century; 1st half of the 20th century. Ceramic decorative vessel from Kagoshima, Japan. Vase on a slightly widening foot with clearly defined shoulders and a short neck; dark brown glaze; decorated with meander, plant and animal motifs; signed. Height: 42 cm., A dark vase with a matte black surface sits against a light gray background, showing a rounded body that tapers to a narrow neck and flared rim and rests on a short pedestal base; the vase is decorated with raised, carved motifs forming symmetrical panels of stylized animal and abstract designs, with ornamental borders near the neck and base. Several small areas of lighter wear or residue appear on the neck and upper body, showing a pale beige contrast against the black. The overall visible colors are black, light gray background, and pale beige in a few worn spots.
